Russian icon "Strastnaja" wood double embossing Size: 30x40 cm Condition: New. The icon is inaugurated by the head of the temple Reverend Serafima Sarowski in the town of Sofrino.
It depicts Our Lady of the Passion, an image of the Virgin Mary that was widely used in Eastern and Western iconography. It is venerated as an image of grace in both the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.
What is characteristic of the image of Mary is that the Christ child, sitting on his mother's left arm, turns to face the archangel Gabriel. He flies in from the right side and holds a cross towards him. From the other side, the archangel Michael floats towards Christ with the passion tools of the lance and hyssop staff. The child is frightened at the sight of the signs of his death and clings fearfully to his mother's right hand with both hands.
