Russian icon "Vladimirskaya Bogomater" wood double embossing Size: 30x40 cm Condition: New. The icon is inaugurated by the head of the temple Reverend Serafima Sarowski in the town of Sofrino.

Vladimirskaya Icon Bogoroditsa — the icon of the Mother of God, one of the most revered relics of the Russian Church; is wonderfully respected. According to church legend, the evangelist wrote the onion on the board of the table behind which Jesus ate with Mary and Joseph. According to legend, Constantinople from Jerusalem came to Emperor Feodosia in the 5th century.

The icon belongs to Rus from Byzantium at the beginning of the XII century. Century (approximately 1131), as the gift Yuri Dolgorukomu advised by Patriarch Luki Khrisovercha. Initially, the Vladimir icon was located in Bogorodichnom Vyshgoroda Monastery, not far from Kiev. After the cruel ruin and robbery of Kiev by Andrei Bogolyubsky, Andrei stole the Vyshgorod icon of the Mother of God and transported it to Vladimir (after which it received its current name) in 1155, where it was kept in the Assumption Cathedral .

During the invasion of Tamerlana by Vasily I in 1395, the icon was moved to Moscow to protect the city from the conqueror. On the spot the meeting of the Muscovites of the Vladimir Icon was founded the Sretensky Monastery, which the street named Sretenka. The fact that Tamerlana's troops turned back from Yelets for no apparent reason, not having reached Moscow, was assessed as the intervention of the Mother of God.
