Why does silver darken?
In the 70s, a program was introduced in the Soviet Union to study the effect of silver on the human body, and vice versa. What emerged from these studies? First of all, it became clear that silver reacts to the secretion of the skin glands - fat and sweat. It would seem that an inert metal should not enter into a chemical reaction. But no - it oxidizes when interacting with sweat. And in it, In addition to salts, it also contains amino acids, which include sulfur. This element has a detrimental effect on the condition of silver. It slowly fades and loses its shine. In short, darkening of jewelry can be an indicator of increased sweating. And it is caused by various reasons.
