Russian gold - what is it?
In Russia and the countries of the former USSR, jewelry made of 585 red gold is most widespread. The color of gold depends on the impurities that are added to the alloy. In its pure form it has a bright yellow color. The alloy may include copper, silver, palladium, nickel, zinc, cadmium and platinum as alloying components. Each of these components affects the color and properties of gold. So, when silver is added to an alloy, it becomes yellow-green in color. When copper is added, the alloy acquires a reddish tint. And when palladium is added, the metal turns white. One gold alloy usually contains several components at the same time.
