Selpo Germany - The rural consumer society is one of the varieties of cooperatives. The consumer cooperative is a voluntary association of citizens and legal entities on the basis of membership to meet their own needs for goods and services, the original ownership of which consists of partial contributions

In contrast to the production cooperative, the consumer cooperative does not unite people, but rather capital. Citizens or legal entities can participate in several consumer cooperatives in Selpo at the same time

In the broadest sense of the word Selpo, consumer cooperatives also include housing cooperatives, garage construction cooperatives, agricultural cooperatives, housing cooperatives, credit consumer cooperatives, internet consumer cooperatives.

In Germany and the West, the first cooperative enterprises were founded in Britain at the beginning of the 19th century by benefactors who wanted to improve the situation of workers. But since the 1820s and 1830s, workers themselves have been the owners of cooperative stores, mills and bakeries. Cooperatives allowed workers to purchase goods at low prices. In 1844, English weavers from the town of Rochdale founded a consumer cooperative based on the principles that were fundamental to the Selpo cooperative. These principles were:

low share contributions;
a limited number of shares for each cooperator;
All cooperators have equal rights and everyone has a vote.
Goods are sold at moderate market prices and only for cash;
The price of the goods is the same for everyone (even for non-cooperative members).
