But there is another option. It happens that a freedom-loving person does not want to admit to himself that he belongs only to his spouse and no one else.
A man or woman subconsciously resists the “marital oppression” that has arisen, although life in the family may be outwardly normal or even happy. But a wedding ring, like a “collar,” psychologically “puts pressure” on one’s own “ego,” and in order to regain the previous “status quo” and subconsciously calm down, a person leaves it at home, somewhere in a secluded place. Perhaps this will not be the only step to prove to himself that despite the stamp on the marriage documents, he is still free. An individual can indulge in flirting and perhaps even infidelity, but does not necessarily decide to destroy an existing marriage.
Tim Wenley believes that if such people make a decision, they will do so after thoroughly weighing and considering everything, so most likely they will not break the hard-created “structure of their life” just to feel a “breath of freedom.”
Play the main “role” in the family
And yet, as experts from the International Professional Association of Psychologists assure, men are more inclined not to wear wedding rings after marriage than women.
They even name the numbers - 90% of husbands account for only 9% of wives. But what is going on with these women who do not want to show others that they are married?
Domestic psychologists claim that these are often young or middle-aged ladies with higher education, striving for active self-realization, possessing not only a sharp mind, perseverance and determination, but also pleasant external characteristics. Marriage for them is not the most important achievement in life; they strive for professional or financial success solely through their own qualities and skills. Such wives are not satisfied with the narrow framework of traditional ideas about the role of women in the family. By removing their wedding ring, they are also unconsciously protesting the status that this piece of jewelry represents.
Another reason is family problems. Active and ambitious women, capable of earning more than their spouses, often play a major role in their families. The husband, relegated to the background and experiencing psychological problems as a result, often becomes a source of marginalization of the atmosphere in the family.
